Controls on Hours of Sale

One way to reduce the availability of alcohol to youth is to limit the hours that alcohol can be purchased. Most states place limits on the days and times when alcohol may be sold, and these restrictions vary widely across jurisdictions. Many states have strictly limited the sale of alcohol on Sundays. Although the effects on youth have not been specifically evaluated, controls on availability in general reduce alcohol-related problems.

Strategy

Find out how your state regulates the sale of alcohol. Then work with local legislators to develop zoning strategies that limit or control the hours of sale for alcoholic beverages.
